5 Ways to Stay Active at Work

It is often recommended to walk at least 10,000 steps a day, to achieve good health and stay physically fit.

For most of us who work in office jobs and spend a good chunk of our time at desks, this can seem like a very big challenge.

A sedentary lifestyle can lead to an increased risk of obesity, diabetes, heart disease and even cancer. Although, there’s no need to worry as there are plenty of ways to be more active in the workplace. Here are just a few to get you started.

    1. Walk at least part of your way to work

If you can walk or get to your workplace on a bicycle, it can be a great way to start your day actively. You would arrive at work feeling energised and fresh, with a clearer mind.

Although, not all of us stay close enough to our workplace. In that case, you can park your vehicle a km or 2 away from your office or get off the public transport far away and walk the remaining distance to get your morning workout. Try a few different ways to see what works best for you.

    2. Take the stairs

We all know we should take the stairs instead of the lift, but how often do we actually do it? The trick is making it a habit, so you stop thinking about it as a choice you have to make every time. Getting rewarded for your steps with StepSetGo can surely add motivation to your intentions and help you in forming such healthy habits.

    3. Volunteer for the coffee run

You can make it a habit to go out and get your own coffee, tea or snack instead of letting someone else pick it up. You can make it even more interesting by taking up a challenge to try a new place each time you go out, instead of always going for the nearest option. Taking a walk with some colleagues is an easy way to socialise and get in some more physical activity.

    4. Track your steps

Tracking your step can be a good way to motivate you to stay active. If you set daily steps goal, you will feel like you have to achieve it in any way possible. A good way to track your steps and progress is to use StepSetGo. You can set achievable goals or simply reach the prescribed “Daily Limit” for your fitness level on the app. Find more ways and “excuses” to stand up and walk at regular intervals.

    5. Start an organisation-wide fitness challenge

Involving your co-workers in a fitness challenge is a great way to become active. Studies have proven that it is easier to achieve a goal when you are doing it in a group and with the right support network to motivate you and encourage you. There are plenty of ways you can make exercise fun and social – maybe you can start a friendly competition to track your steps and see who can walk the most in a day, week or for the entire month. We at StepSetGo can help you and your organisation out by curating exclusive and organisation-wide fitness challenges. You can compete with your colleagues individually, compete with them in team-based challenges or simply walk together to achieve a collective goal!
