Well, we all do. Many have especially experienced overeating during quarantine because we have all been locked inside our homes with minimal physical activity. If you intend to lose weight then you already know that it is not an easy thing to do and definitely takes time and discipline.
Here are 7 easy and interesting tips to help you avoid overeating.
Eat Slowly
As easy as it sounds, eating slowly and mindfully keeps a check on overeating. It takes our body 20 minutes to tell our brain that we are full, hence we tend to overeat when we eat fast. So when it’s time to eat, slow down and enjoy every bite of your meal.
Use smaller plates
Sometimes, the simplest ideas are the best ones. You can’t fit large portions on a smaller plate and a smaller portion will look visually satisfying when it fills the plate. This will send subtle hints to your brain that this is all you need to feel full.
Eat Real Foods
The single most important thing that helps you avoid overeating is the inclusion of real, whole, and unprocessed food in your diet. This means having vegetables, whole grains, fruits, nuts, beans.
Eat Early
We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but it is also very helpful in avoiding overeating. Do not eat for at least 2 hours before going to bed. Eating earlier in the day prevents you from overeating at night.
Know your trigger foods
We all have that one dish/food item that we just can’t get enough of. One little piece of Kaju Katli that you have recently stocked up during Diwali, can start that downward spiral of overeating. Become aware of your trigger foods which may include sugar-sweetened drinks, sweets, baked foods, bread, or refined carbs, and indulge in them only on your cheat days.
Drink water before eating
Drinking water before a meal helps your stomach feel fuller and will curb any unwanted cravings. Drink water at least 10 minutes before eating your meal to curb your appetite.
Brush your teeth right after eating
This one definitely sounds silly, but it will surely help you avoid overeating. If you brush your teeth right after a meal, it subconsciously signals your brain that you are finished. You will be less likely to eat the leftovers later and deserts will be less tempting.
